Welcome to My Website
Ever since I was a small child I have been fascinated by the past. I loved to hear my grandmother’s stories and I liked to ask her important questions such as “Who was your best friend?” and “What was your most amazing birthday present?” In my early teens, I visited the General Register Office in London to search for a reference to my great grandfather’s birth and ordered my first certificate. From then on, I was hooked! Family history became my passion.
At Leicester University I gained a BA Honours degree in History (of course!) I was then fortunate enough to turn my interest into a career, spending over ten years working as a professional genealogist at the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies in Canterbury, Kent, England. There I gained the Higher Certificate and Diploma in Genealogy and began teaching, writing and lecturing on family history as well as researching numerous family histories. I also authored and became a tutor for the correspondence course run by the Institute.
After some time living in Chicago, USA, where I had the opportunity of running a course on British Ancestry at the Newberry Library, I moved back across the pond. I have now decided to merge my passion for family history and teaching by writing this blog, sharing some of my experiences and knowledge with readers.
